In the wrap-up session, Jay Rosen asked Block by Block participants to give assignments to one another to carry out after the conference ends.

Here they are:

  • Create a way for local bloggers and producers to bring in structured data that would pair well with news content.
  • Develop new ad networks.
  • Study the effectiveness of the work done by community news organizations.
  • Put pressure on the city government in Chicago. Shake up local governments everywhere.
  • Come up with other revenue ideas besides advertising.
  • Find three successful businesspeople in your town and seek out their advice on running your business.
  • To Patch: When you move into a community, get to know the indigenous local media producers.
  • Put together resources based on what we learned today.
  • Be transparent.
