Small Choices in the Great Audience Business

Rob Kapilow at Gel 2010 (composer, pianist, author) from Gel Conference on Vimeo.

Earlier this year, I had the pleasure of attending GEL, a unique conference centered around the idea of creating great experiences. It was highly relevant to my job at the time, working with web analytics
and user experience design.

This morning I came across my notes from GEL, and it struck me that much of what I learned could also be applied to our shared passion — community news.

One of the speakers was a classical musician named Rob Kapilow. He spoke about the need to take responsibility for how people listen to us.

“We need to be in the great audience business,” Kapilow said.

Of course.

He also said that the difference between good and great comes down to “hundreds of small, inspired choices.”

What small choices do we face each day that provide the opportunity to take our audiences from good to great?
